Have you noticed your face taking on a tired, heavy look? A shifting brow may be the culprit. As we age, our brow tends to descend as a result of gravity, an effect that can cause heavy wrinkles to form on the forehead, drooping eyelids and an overall tired, aged facial appearance. Would you like to re-set your brow to a more youthful position? Brow lift surgery does just that, and eliminates the appearance of wrinkles and even deep folds on the forehead. The result is that your entire face looks much younger, more rested and alert. So say goodbye to heavy wrinkles and sagging skin and hello to a more vibrant, youthful face!

Does Brow Lift Surgery Fit Your Needs?

Not sure if brow lift surgery* is right for you? A brow lift can correct many common signs of facial aging in the upper face, including:

  • Deep folds or heavy creases on the forehead
  • Hooded eyes due to sagging eyelid skin and/or brow line
  • Furrows (or “11” lines) between the eyebrows
  • A heavy-looking brow that looks like it’s falling

*Prior to having brow lift surgery, talk to Dr. McAllister about the medications and vitamins you are taking. Certain medications that increase the risk of bleeding such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., ibuprofen) and some vitamins/homeopathic regimens should be discontinued prior to any elective surgery. Also, if you are a smoker, it is recommended that you stop smoking well in advance of the surgery, as smoking can affect your body’s ability to heal.

How is Brow Lift Surgery Performed?

Dr. McAllister uses many variations of the brow lift procedure, based on the patient’s facial structure, needs and surgery goals. Brow lift surgery is an outpatient procedure that typically last about an hour. Incisions are made discreetly along the upper hairline, from which point excess skin is trimmed and the underlying muscles and skin in the area are lifted, eliminating wrinkles on the forehead and eye area, and giving the face a natural-looking lift.

What Can You Expect When Recovering from Brow Lift Surgery?

You can expect the upper portion of your face to be swollen and bruised; this will likely last for the first few days of your recovery. To bring the swelling down, sleep with your head elevated by pillows. Cold compresses can also be gently applied to the area. You may experience some mild discomfort, which can be relieved with the pain medication prescribed by Dr. McAllister. To ensure a healthy recovery, it is also important to refrain from smoking during this period, since smoking adversely affects your body’s ability to heal itself.

Dr. McAllister’s brow lift patients are usually able to return to work a week after their surgery. Strenuous exercise and weight-bearing exercises should be avoided for several weeks after surgery.
